Big things on the horizon for Teenage Rugby Star Storm Atkins

Lambert’s Bay Native Storm Atkins built quite a reputation for himself being an all-round sporting giant in his community.

Atkins matriculated from Huguenot High School in Wellington in 2023 and has been chosen to be part of the South African Invitation Sevens team that will tour Dubai from the end of November until the third of December.

Storm was also elected for the South African Invitational Travel Academy team to do the World School’s festival from the middle of December until the end of December.

Atkins represented the Boland Central u18 rugby team and was also named the 100m, 200m, and 400m track event champion in matric.

Storm and his father have also had discussions with a local rugby team in Christchurch, New Zealand for an opportunity to play.

What makes 19-year-old Storm so unique is his killer instinct, hunger to win, and his respect for his teammates and opponents. His blistering speed, amazing footwork, and finishing ability make him the dangerman for any team that he represents.

Atkins already participated in a rugby tournament back in April, where he played in France, with that the community of Lambert’s Bya raised a stellar R50 000 and is hoping to do the same again.

Storm currently plays for Lambert’s Bay Rugby Club in the Northwest Marine’s tournament.

Atkins’ father Sinclair shared a bit on his rugby journey so far and says it’s relatively uncommon that a boy from their area reaches great heights, with Embrose Papier an exception and his son hoping to be next.

“Where we are from, in Lambert’s Bay, the only guy that made it really far is Embrose Papier who has played for the Springboks and currently plays for the Blue Bulls. I know him personally and Storm is coming up under him. It is a big achievement for somebody from Lambert’s Bay to excel in this sport,” he said.

South African communities are being encouraged to help young Storm Atkins and his family achieve their goal of R80 000 for his tour to Dubai Any help or donations to fulfill the goal would be greatly appreciated.

Any further information regarding donations can be enquired with Storm's father Sinclair on his Whatsapp number: 078 581 5147.
