Southern Stars Building a Solid Foundation for South African Baseball

The coaching staff were chatting to new members and welcomed them to the club.

The Southern Stars Baseball Club founded in Alberton, East Rand Gauteng hopes to help young players acquire newfound skills and upgrade their baseball knowledge.

It was founded by a group of community adults and used as a relaxing sport after school for young people and after work for adults.

The club is still looking to branch out and is encouraging people outside of their community to join their squad. Old members have returned for their new season looking to win more trophies and emphasize their leadership role when helping the young ones navigate and find their rhythm in the sport.

The opening day kicked off on the 6th of September 2024. The day was filled with laughter, friendships, great team bonding, and of course the love for the game of baseball.

Kids from the ages of 5 to 18, took part in the practice and learned valuable skill drills.

Shaun Niemand, one of the driving forces and chairman of the club has applauded the amount of gracious support the club has been getting since it was founded.

“Their love of the game was undeniable, and they embraced the new players that joined the Stars group with open arms.”

He also shared his excitement regarding the junior players’ upcoming season.

“We at Southern Stars are excited to announce the upcoming junior season, running from September to March. Games will kick off at the end of September, so get ready for some thrilling competition,” he said.

Anyone interested in joining the club or helping out with coaching needs to be present at Alberton Football Club every day Tuesday and Friday at 17:00.

The baseball club enhances the learning of a new sport and can help people thrive outside of their comfort zones. By establishing the club, the community can work together to nurture young talent hoping to play Baseball overseas one day.
