Meet Katlego Sephakwe, a passionate coach at Tiki Taka sports academy whose journey began in the heart of Potchefstroom. Growing up, he never imagined his path would lead him to transform young lives through soccer. "I started coaching in high school, acting as a player-coach," he recalls with enthusiasm, "That’s when I discovered my leadership abilities while guiding my peers during practice sessions."

Sephakwe's foray into coaching was entirely unexpected. "At 17, I was just an ambitious soccer player, training alone," he explains. His dedication drew the attention of younger boys nearby, who eagerly watched and eventually asked him for training guidance. "I guess you could say I was born into sports," he muses, reflecting on his upbringing in a sports-loving family. "Sports has always been my calling, and I still play and stay actively involved today!"

With his passion ignited, Sephakwe pursued a degree in sports science at university. "While studying, I realized there were many aspects of coaching that we weren't taught during our development as players,” he shares thoughtfully. “I wanted to bridge that gap." Armed with knowledge and determination, he set out to apply what he learned in the classroom to the field.

At the heart of Sephakwe's coaching philosophy lies the principle of ball retention. "Keeping the ball is essential to opening up defenses and creating scoring opportunities," he explains. His training sessions are designed to enhance both the technical and tactical skills of his players, emphasizing patience and precision. "We focus on how we approach games; we prepare meticulously," he adds confidently. Sephakwe focuses on player development, teamwork, toughness, and giving 100% effort in training and games.

Reflecting on his journey, Sephakwe acknowledges the challenges, particularly the need for parental support in acquiring equipment. "It's frustrating, but I refuse to let that stop us from training," he asserts with determination. "We work with what we have because passion for the game shouldn't wane due to obstacles."

Sephakwe describes his coaching style as evolving. "I'm always willing to learn and adapt," he states. This openness keeps his approach dynamic and relevant, ensuring that he remains an effective mentor. Sephakwe envisions competing in top local sports leagues, building training facilities, and stresses effective communication, trust, and support for connected players.

"I strive to lead by example, fostering a sense of trust and reliability within the team."

"I create a safe space for players to express their views, teaching them the importance of active listening and mutual respect." "On the field, I teach skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship; off the field, I mentor personal growth and resilience." "I measure it by the growth of my players, their understanding of teamwork, and how they apply what they learn," he remarks.
