Boland Club Rugby: Evergreens Overpower All Stars in Lanquedoc

The Boland Club Rugby "Streek Uitdaag" (Regional Challenge) delivered a physical encounter this past Saturday as Evergreens Wellington RFC secured a convincing 31–3 victory over All Stars RFC. Despite the scoreline, the match was a tough affair that tested the clinical execution of the Wellington side against a doggedly determined home team.

The first half was a testament to the defensive resolve of All Stars. Playing in front of their home crowd, they disrupted the Evergreens' rhythm at every breakdown, making it incredibly difficult for the visitors to settle into their preferred game plan. At the break, Evergreens held a slender 10–3 lead, with the game very much in the balance.

The turning point arrived 45 minutes in. Evergreens deployed their "Bomb Squad," spearheaded by Jon-Lee Bastian, whose entry into the fray shifted the momentum entirely. The replacement front row—Dale Swarts, Dowayne Abrahams, and Brandon Jones—was nothing short of dominant, demolishing the All Stars in the scrums and providing the platform for a second-half surge.

Captain Lowellen Lakay was the standout leader on the pitch, marshaling his troops with composure while the "Bomb Squad" did the heavy lifting. In the backline, Shane Simonse put on a defensive masterclass. His aggressive line speed forced All Stars into panicked kicking, which repeatedly handed possession back to a hungry Evergreens attack.

Evergreens Chairperson Denzil rated the outing a 7/10, noting that while the win was solid, there is work to be done. "We definitely have a few concerns regarding our execution, but we believe the more we play, the better we will become," he stated.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Wellington side. This coming week sees them head into a massive local derby against Adelaars, a match expected to be a high-stakes battle for community bragging rights.
