Kayamandi Boxing Academy’s Amahle Mthelo Becomes Two-Time National Champion

The Kayamandi Boxing Academy has proudly announced that 14-year-old Amahle Mthelo has been crowned a two-time South African champion, following her outstanding performance at the 2025 SANABO National Championships held in Rustenburg, North West, from 07-12 October 2025.

In an update to National Citizen, academy secretary and administrative officer, Nombulelo Ngolozana shared the news with excitement. “It is with great pride to introduce our two-time South African champion,” she said. “At just 14 years old, Amahle has made a name for herself nationally, recognised in the 2025 SANABO Championships as the best female boxer and best fight of the tournament. She wasn’t alone, but with two of our other boxers, Luthando Mayongo and Endinako Nqolose, who also fought a good fight, unfortunately did not make it too far in the championships. We are proud of the young champions’ achievements and are looking forward to more success and wins in the future.”

Kayamandi Boxing Academy Coach, Xolisani Thembani reflected on the experience, praising the athletes and sharing insight into their journey. “As a coach, it’s a special feeling to witness Amahle’s growth from a shy beginner to a confident champion. It reminds me why we do this, to help young athletes reach their potential and make their families and community proud,” he said.

“It was a great experience for Endinako and Luthando. They had the opportunity to meet and interact with some of the best boxers in the country, visit another province, and connect with people from different cultures. This experience will undoubtedly help them grow and become even better boxers going forward.” Coach added.

“The community’s reaction was overwhelming. Our donors, parents, and teammates were all very happy and proud of the team’s success. We’re truly grateful for the love and encouragement we received, especially through the positive messages and celebrations on our social media platforms.”

“We are currently training in a very small space, and as our team continues to grow and achieve success, we need a larger training facility, proper equipment, and any form of support we can receive from the Stellenbosch Municipality. We take great pride in representing Stellenbosch at the national level, and with the right support, we believe we can achieve even greater things for our community.”

Coach Xolisani Thembani also expressed gratitude to the academy’s supporters. “We would also like to sincerely thank our donors and friends who have been standing by us throughout this journey, Gino’s Stellenbosch, Neil Sauls Fresh Produce, Dr Johan Davis (SAS), and Emile. Your generosity and belief in our mission continue to make a real difference in the lives of our young athletes.”

The academy also confirmed the support of Raubex Building Company as an additional sponsor, highlighting the strong community backing behind the young boxers.

The Kayamandi Boxing Academy welcomes further support from the community and businesses to help develop local talent and provide a safe, structured space for young athletes to thrive. Those interested in contributing or partnering with the academy can contact the academy at 062 637 4864.
