Matric 2025 Results: Stay in the know of access and next steps
About 900,000 Grade 12 students who took the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams are waiting for their results. Minister Siviwe Gwarube will announce the overall results today, 12 January 2026. Individuals can access their results starting at 06:00 on 13 January 2026, through the following ways:
- Your school or exam centre
- SMS or the Department of Basic Education (DBE) website
The DBE will also publish the NSC exam results in accredited newspapers on 13 January 2026. The results will only show examination numbers and marks. Names, surnames, and ID numbers will not be included, which has been the standard practice in recent years.
Pass Levels:
To earn your National Senior Certificate, you must meet specific benchmarks across seven subjects. You need to pass at least six subjects overall. The required marks depend on your future study or career plans, whether you aim for a bachelor’s degree, diploma, or higher certificate.
Re-check or Remark Exams:
If you think your results do not reflect your efforts or seem wrong, there is a way to address this. You can ask for a review. You may request a re-check (to verify marks and totals) or a re-mark (a full re-evaluation) of your exam papers for a fee. You can register for this at your school, provincial district office, or online. A re-check costs R30, and a re-mark can cost up to R130. The deadline for these requests is 27 January 2026.
Improve Results with a Rewrite:
The May/June 2026 supplementary NSC exams are a chance to boost your performance, improve individual subject marks, or finish incomplete results.
Who can apply?
Any NSC candidate (from the November 2008 exams onward) can apply to improve their overall results or a single subject. Candidates who were absent for a valid reason (like a medical issue, a death in the family, or other special reasons) from one or more papers can also apply if they have valid internal marks (like practical assessments). Candidates who did not write or finish one or more November papers for reasons other than illness or family death can apply if they have valid internal marks. Provisional entry can occur if an irregularity is under investigation. You should submit any result queries for investigation within 30 days after the results are released.
