Roses United Remain Top After Big Win over Ceres
On Saturday, 02 August 2025, Roses United Rugby Club extended their unbeaten streak to 17 matches with a big 60-12 victory over Ceres RFC at Pelikaan Park. This win wasn’t just another good result for Roses United, it proved how strong and dominant they are in the Boland Grand Challenge and showed that they’re serious contenders for a spot in the upcoming Sanlam Boland Top 12 Final.
From the start, Roses controlled the game with their strength and teamwork. By halftime, they had already taken the lead by 31-5 and never looked back.
“It was a clinical performance,” said Roses United Chairperson Herman Bailey. “We stuck to our plan and everything paid off.”
The entire Roses United team played well, but Oswin Mentoor, who is a lock forward, stood out as Man of the Match.
This win was more than just adding points to the log. Roses United, now having 85 points, is the team to beat during the upcoming Sanlam Boland Top 12.
Herman Bailey added, “This win brings us closer to our goals, and the fans today supported us, just like the players did.”
Ceres Rugby Club, who came into the game third on the table, were disappointed by the loss. “We’re disappointed as a team by the results,” said Ceres Chairperson Gaby Kaalmeyer. “This could be the end of our top 12 campaign,” he added.
Gaby Kaalmeyer shared a message to their supporters, “We want our supporters to keep believing. We’ll come back stronger.”
With this win, Roses United remain the leaders in the Witzenberg-Setraal competition. They are in full control of their campaign. Additionally, they have secured their spot for the Sanlam Boland Top 12 campaign later this year.
