Dr Michael Leslie Le Roux
A medical doctor born in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape (22 June 1985), is a South African whose passion for medicine was inspired by his own experience. Born with congenital clubfeet, he is motivated to make a difference for others who share the same condition.
EARLY LIFE
Dr. Le Roux was born at the Gqeberha Provincial Hospital and spent his childhood in Gqeberha. He began his education at Cederberg Primary School, attending from 1991 to 1998, where he completed grades 1 through 7. From 1999 to 2003, he attended Chattly High School, where he completed grade 8 and ultimately finished grade 12.
PERSONAL LIFE
Dr. Michael Le Roux faced significant challenges during his childhood, having been born with a condition known as congenital clubfoot. He underwent three surgeries between the ages of 1 and 4, ultimately succeeding in correcting the condition in his feet. Inspired by his own experiences, he chose to study medicine with the goal of helping others who faced similar challenges. He wanted to ensure that no one else had to endure the same difficulties he experienced. Tragically, he lost his parents during his teenage years.
CAREER LIFE
In 2004, he enrolled at Stellenbosch University to study medicine, completing his degree in 2011. During his studies, he resided at the university's residence. He began serving as a medical intern in February 2011, completing a two-year internship at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Umtata, Eastern Cape, until February 2013.
In March 2013, he started his community service at the Paarl TC Newman Clinic, which lasted until February 2014. After completing his community service, he registered as an Independent Medical Officer and continued working at the clinic until January 2019.
In January 2019, he enrolled at the University of Cape Town to pursue a master's degree in family medicine, a program that ran from 2019 to 2022. During the four years of his master's studies, he also worked at various hospitals:
