A veteran radio presenter, born in Bellville, Cape Town, on July 22, 1962, is a South African with a rich background in community radio. She worked for nine years at Radio KC in Paarl and is famously known as "Koraal Vrou."
EARLY LIFE
Unita began her education at L.K. Zeeman Primary School, attending until grade 7. She then continued her studies at Paulus Joubert High School from grades 8 to 10. However, she dropped out of school to search for a job because she was struggling and needed to support herself.
PERSONAL LIFE
Unita was born in the City of Cape Town, specifically in the Bellville area of the Western Cape. Her mother gave birth to her when she was only 14 years old, while working in service in Bellville. Unita was originally named Meita Hesselman, but her legal name was changed to Unita Davids by her adoptive parents when she turned three years old. She was adopted at the age of three by a teenage girl named Charlotte Davids, who had noticed her several times wandering alone, neglected and without proper care.
At the age of 7, Unita and her adoptive family moved to Amstelhof in Paarl. She did not have the most pleasant upbringing, as she was exposed to a family struggling with alcohol abuse and faced constant bullying at school for being adopted. Years later, she connected with her biological mother in adulthood; however, they do not have a close relationship. Unita does not have any relationship with her father because she does not know him.
At 19 years old, she gave birth to her first child, Zayn Davids. She got married in a Muslim ceremony at the age of 24, after which her full name changed to Nazmeen Allie. After a while, she divorced and converted to Christianity, adopting the name Unita Abrahams following her second marriage. She married twice more after that and went through her final divorce as Unita Pretorius. For personal reasons, she later changed her surname back to Abrahams.
CAREER
Mrs. Abrahams began her working life shortly after dropping out of high school. She spent 17 years at Checkers grocery store in Paarl before moving to Woolworths, where she worked for another 3 years.
