Cambio Soccer Club Held to 2-2 Draw After Late Equaliser Against Batalions FC

Cambio Soccer Club was denied victory in the closing minutes of their Drakenstein Local Football Association (DLFA) Super League clash against Batalions FC on Sunday, 12 October 2025. The match ended in a 2-2 draw at Mbekweni C Field.

Cambio started the match strongly, dominating possession and creating most of the early chances. Bandile opened the scoring for Cambio before Nokutenda Maravesa doubled the lead with a well-finished goal just before half-time. Batalions FC managed to pull one back before the break, making it 2-1 at half-time.

In the second half, Cambio continued to control the game but was unable to extend the lead. Batalions FC took advantage of a late defensive lapse, scoring an equaliser in the final minutes after a misjudged bouncing ball.

Reflecting on the match, Cambio Chairman Lionel John Maharajah said he was proud of his young players’ performance despite the disappointing finish.

“Yes, regarding the 2-2 match, I felt that we dominated that match. We led twice, and yeah, just a lack of judgment at the end. Basically, the Batalion scored by a bouncing ball. It was obviously very frustrating to, you know, in soccer in general. You know, you don’t let the ball bounce. And I think also the boys that played our back four were all very, very young. Between 15 and 16 years old. So yes, they definitely learned, you know, they learned the hard way.”

Maharajah highlighted that the result, while frustrating, is part of the club’s long-term commitment to youth development and learning through experience. Most of Cambio’s defensive lineup featured players aged just 15 and 16, gaining valuable exposure at the senior level.

Cambio will return to action on Thursday, 16 October 2025, when they face another DLFA Super League fixture at 18:00 at Mbekweni C Field, aiming to convert lessons learned into a stronger performance.
