Cambio Soccer Club Secures 2-0 Victory Against Paarl Soccer Club

Cambio Soccer Club’s youthful team continued to show their growing strength in local football with a 2-0 win over Paarl Soccer Club on Thursday, 09 October 2025, in a Drakenstein Local Football Association (DLFA) Super League match at Mbekweni C Field.

Esona Dasheka opened the scoring for Cambio Soccer Club with a beautiful free-kick that left Paarl Soccer Club with no chance, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Later in the game, Noku Marevesa doubled the lead by converting a precise assist from Esona Dasheka, showing excellent teamwork and composure in front of the goal. Esona Dasheka’s overall performance, including his vision, passing, and leadership on the field, earned him the Player of the Match, highlighting his key role in guiding the team to a well-deserved 2-0 victory.

Esona Dasheka scored from a free kick and was named Player of the Match.

“Our boys really played well and controlled the game from the beginning to the end,” Cambio Soccer Club Chairman, Lionel John Maharajah told National Citizen News and Media. “The opposition only got one clear opportunity, which shows how strong our defence was. Even the five players on the bench made a difference in the match, and our goalkeeper, Asakhe Manunga, who made his debut, started with a clean sheet.”

Previously, Cambio Soccer Club faced Early Birds FC on 27 September 2025, losing 2-6, while Paarl Soccer Club had lost 3-4 to Loverslane FC on 02 October 2025 and lost again 2-4 to Young Ideas FC on 05 October 2025. This win allowed Cambio Soccer Club to bounce back confidently.

Cambio was founded in 2019 by Lionel John Maharajah and has grown into a key force in local football, with a strong focus on developing young players. “Our main focus has always been development,” Mr Maharajah said. “Many of our players started with us at 16 or 17 years old, and several are still with the first team today. We continue to add younger players each season.”

The Club currently has several junior teams, ranging from under-11 to under-17, with most of their second team comprising players aged 17 and younger. Mr Maharajah explained that the club’s long-term goal is to prepare these young athletes for senior-level football while ensuring they build strong mental and physical discipline. “The Super League is focused on development,” he explained. “We might lose some matches, but we want our players to gain experience and confidence. Our approach is to stick to our principles and focus on how we want to play the game.”

Among the standout young talents in the Cambio Soccer Club are Nokutenda Maravesa, who is a 17-year-old left-footed winger known for his pace and power and Andriaan Le Roux, a 15-year-old centre-back who has impressed with his maturity and composure despite only starting football earlier this year. “Those two players are definitely ones to look out for,” Mr Maharajah said.

Cambio Soccer Club is also known for its diverse and inclusive environment, welcoming players from various cultural and national backgrounds. Mr Maharajah takes pride in how the club fosters unity and mutual respect among players. “We’ve always been open to everyone, regardless of background, colour, or religion,” he said.

Cambio Soccer Club continues its mission of developing local youth talent, ensuring that football in the Drakenstein region grows stronger and more competitive.
