Diego Dietdricks-Miggel Destined for Stardom

The West Coast has produced an impressive array of musical talent in recent years, with many artists gaining significant attention in the South African music industry. One such artist is Diego Dietdricks-Miggel, commonly known as “Diego.” He seems poised to achieve great things.

Originally from Vredenburg, Diego discovered his passion for music at the age of 16 and wrote his first song at 18. He describes his style as a blend of "traditional RnB" infused with a touch of "soul music." 

When discussing his strengths as a musician, Diego highlights his talent for composing melodies and harmonizing. His songwriting ability comes naturally to him; he can write effortlessly on the spot. Like all musicians striving for mastery, Diego remains open to improvement.

His musical journey has not been without challenges. He has struggled with self-confidence, which initially made him shy away from pursuing music. However, he has since shifted his mindset. “I always wanted to sing, but I’ve struggled with self-confidence my whole life. Luckily, I made a mindset switch and realized that I have to constantly remind myself that people actually care about me and my music. I've learned that positive comments will always outweigh negative ones, and if I confront my fear of putting myself out there, I can learn to embrace it,” he explains.

From his perspective, Diego aspires to learn how to play instruments and gain a deeper understanding of the technical side of music. He cites influences such as Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, Usher, and Tank, while also appreciating contemporary artists like Bryson Tiller, Lucky Daye, Partynextdoor, and Kehlani. 

Individuality is vital for growth, and it helps listeners connect with his sound. What sets Diego apart is that he possesses the sound of an international artist while seamlessly blending his native Afrikaans with English.

Like many artists, Diego has his own inspiration for creating music. He believes that real-life experiences significantly inform his work. “People and their life experiences have had a huge impact on the messages in my music. I try to put myself in people’s shoes to understand their feelings and translate those experiences into music that they can relate to. Music is all about being relatable. I draw inspiration from conversations with others, observing them, listening to them, and capturing those moments on a beat.”

The young musician has already made a significant impact on stage with several major performances, helping him gain a new fanbase. He served as the opening act for Jomali in Vredenburg and shared the lineup with the prestigious Anslin Gysman during only his third performance ever.

In addition to covering popular songs, he has officially released his own material. His tracks "Feel Loved," "Go Best Friend," and "Toxic Love" showcase his incredible vocal range, as well as the hunger and passion in his voice.

His most popular releases to date, including "Ain't Just Lust" and "Feel Loved," have accumulated nearly 6,000 views combined, further establishing him as a prominent artist in the West Coast music scene.

Diego’s supporters can also be on the lookout for his upcoming Extended Playlist.

He provided details about his upcoming Extended Playlist and is actively collaborating with his producer. 

“I’m planning to release an EP next year called ‘Sleek and Confident.’ My producer, Rhyno Basson, also known as S7nt77n, and I are working hard behind the scenes to create quality music for my supporters,” he said.

The R&B artist also hopes to collaborate with local musicians like Jimmy Nevis, YoungstaCPT, and Mi Casa in the future. On an international level, he aspires to work with R&B superstars such as Chris Brown and Lucky Daye.

Diego’s journey exemplifies guts, determination, and perseverance. A lesson for the youth from his story is that when you set your mind to a goal and work diligently, you can achieve anything in life.
