Miss SA: Trouble in Paradise?

The prestigious Miss South Africa pageant has been postponed. This leaves supporters and social media users with questions about the reasons behind the postponement.

Miss South Africa is a national pageantry event hosted every year in South Africa, where young South African women who meet standard criteria are given the opportunity to register and partake in the competition. Entries for the 2025 edition of the competition opened on 2 April and closed on 11 April, considering the pageant typically takes place in August - known and celebrated as Women’s Month - with National Women’s Day falling on 9 August.

On the 21st of July, it was announced on the official Instagram page and website of Miss SA that the annual event has been postponed to a later date towards the end of 2025. The organisation states that the reasons for this postponement are to ensure greater alignment with international and other global events. However, supporters and social media followers did not receive this news in good faith and many exclaimed their disappointment, questioning what the real reasons behind the postponement may be.

This course of events comes amid the announcement of the resignation by Former Miss South Africa CEO Stephanie Weil, which was published on the official Miss SA website on 10 July 2025.

The organisation is broad and was established for South African women to represent the country in international pageants such as Miss World, Miss Supranational, and Miss Universe. In recent years, aims have developed to include women with disabilities, women with a thicker bone structure, and women with children. The country was excited for this and was looking forward to it. The new date is yet to be announced, and successful candidates will have to wait for their chance to compete.
