The Big Clash in the Steelcage: In-Form Young Stars Facing Tough Porseleinberg Test

Local rugby fans, pull up your socks! This Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Hermon sports grounds—affectionately known by locals as "The Steelcage"—will host a massive battle in the Boland Club Rugby Community Shield. Porseleinberg RFC is welcoming a red-hot Young Stars RFC side for a clash that promises fireworks. The B teams kick things off at 14:45, followed by the main A team event at 16:00.

Young Stars Flying High and Ready for a Fight

Young Stars are absolutely on a roll right now. They are coming off a massive 52–14 demolition of Try Again RFC in their last game. Head coach Christopher Johannes says his boys have been sweating it out in the gym and on the field all week.

Because every game counts, Coach Johannes is treating this like a knockout final. The team is focusing heavily on two things: hard tackling and a physical presence.

"We want to be clinical," Johannes says. "We've worked on new plans to make our attack even sharper this week."

The Stars will be led out by Captain John Morgan van Wyk, popularly known to fans as "Klein Brood." He says the squad is mentally rock-solid, quoting a favorite team saying: "There is nothing better than a made-up mind."

Club chairperson Ricardo Fransman is also highly confident. He revealed that several key players who missed last week's game are back, putting Young Stars at full strength. Fransman is aiming high, openly stating he expects a bonus-point win this weekend.

Porseleinberg Defending Their Home Turf

But anyone who thinks Porseleinberg will be a walkover is sorely mistaken. They have the ultimate home-ground advantage at The Steelcage, and they are incredibly tough to beat on their own grass.

Plus, they are fresh. Porseleinberg had a bye (a rest week) last week, meaning their bodies are recovered and ready. In their previous match before the break, they absolutely crushed Young Superstars 63–6.

Porseleinberg chairperson Rodney Louw says the team is keeping their feet on the ground, focusing on hard work and togetherness. After the brief layout, the home side has focused heavily on boosting their fitness levels and, crucially, cutting down on giving away silly penalties. They want to control the game right from the very first whistle.

Team News: Who is In and Who is Out?

Injuries have hit the Young Stars squad, but their depth is being tested in a good way.

  • OUT for Young Stars: Henrico Magallas (ankle), Linwayne Roman (shoulder), and Donnie Williams (back).

  • IN (Returning from recovery): Claudiaan Abrahams, Jacques Scholtz, Stephen Hendricks, and Jody Solomans.

With Young Stars chasing a bonus point and Porseleinberg desperate to give their home fans something to scream about after a week off, this is a match you cannot afford to miss. Get down to the Hermon grounds early, grab your spot by the fence, and let’s support local rugby!
