Wellington Warriors Lost 2-1 Against Worcester Spurs FC in Regional League Battle

On Saturday, 15 November 2025, Wellington Warriors football club slipped to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Worcester Spurs FC in their Cape Winelands Men’s Regional League Stream B fixture at Zwellethemba Stadium. The match formed part of the Wellington Warriors’ early campaign in the 2025/26 season, where they currently sit 9th on the log with 1 point. They played two games, one draw and one defeat, in their opening two games.

The Warriors made an energetic start and opened the scoring through a brilliant free kick from Asenathi, who curled the ball past the goalkeeper to give Wellington a 1–0 lead. His set-piece strike was the standout moment of the match. Worcester Spurs, however, found an equaliser before halftime, making the first-half scoreline 1–1 and shifting the momentum ahead of a tense second period.

In the second half, Spurs scored the decisive goal, putting the Warriors under increased pressure. Although the visitors continued to push hard, they were unable to convert their chances. The club noted that certain refereeing decisions disrupted their rhythm, but despite the challenges, the team fought until the final whistle.

Head coach Allistaire De Koker praised his players for their effort and growth. “Really good performance by the team. We are really proud of the way the team is performing and the new players are settling in, given the lack of preparation time compared to other teams. This MRL season will be very exciting. Hoping for good results soon,” he said. His comments highlight the positive direction inside the camp despite the recent setbacks.

In the latest Hollywood Bets Regional League Stream B standings, Wellington Warriors sit in the lower half of the table with 1 point after two matches. Their record stands at 1 draw and 1 loss, with 1 goal scored and 2 conceded, resulting in a –1 goal difference. The early stage of the season still offers room to climb, but with frontrunners Worcester City FC and Maties FC on 7 points each, the Warriors will need strong performances in their next fixtures to remain competitive and move upward on the log.
