"Die Dam" Remains a Graveyard for Opponents as Evergreens Wellington Demolish Adelaars
They don’t call it "Die Dam" for nothing. Evergreens Park lived up to its reputation as a "no-man's land" for visiting teams this past Saturday, as a clinical Evergreens side dismantled Adelaars with a staggering 71–10 victory.
In a performance that combined brute forward dominance with slick backline execution, the Evergreens outfit secured a vital five-point haul to keep the pressure on at the top of the log. Despite the lopsided scoreline, the Evergreens leadership remains grounded, eyeing the ultimate prize.
The scoreline tells a story of total dominance, but for Chairman Denzil and the coaching staff, the satisfaction lies in the "how" rather than just the "how many". Under the guidance of Head Coach Jeremy Lottering, Assistant Coach Duwayne, and General Manager Roswill Hendricks, the team’s game plan was executed with military precision.
The synergy between the forwards and the backs was the highlight of the afternoon. While handling errors in the red zone arguably robbed the home side of even more points, the sheer volume of scoring opportunities created was a testament to their attacking structure.

Defense: The Silent Assassin
While the 71 points will grab the headlines, the defensive statistics are perhaps more frightening for future opponents. Out of 41 attempted tackles, Evergreens missed only 4.
"Credit to our defense system," said Chairman Denzil. "Our line speed was well executed, and even in the final quarter. We are making sure the main thing stays the main thing: playing good rugby and getting results."
Standout Performers
The Evergreens scrum once again proved to be a weapon of mass destruction, "demolishing" the Adelaars pack at every set piece. This platform allowed the creative sparks to fly:
-
Lowellen Lakay: Named Man of the Match, Lakay has carried his scintillating pre-season form into the first three league games, proving to be the heartbeat of the team.
-
Dale "SuperBig" Swart: Lived up to his moniker with an "outstanding" shift in the trenches.
-
The Finishers: Jayden Snyders, Mateo Blake, Monroe Engelbreght, Lindsay Willemse, and Shane Simonse were identified as the primary architects of chaos, repeatedly ripping the Adelaars' defensive line apart.
Despite the thumping win, Evergreens remain in second place on the log due to points difference. For a club that has tasted the bitterness of "near-misses" over the last few years, there is no room for complacency.
"As Chairman, I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but we haven't won anything yet," Denzil remarked. "We still have a lot to work on if we don't want to make the same mistakes as previous years."
The focus now shifts immediately to Saturday, 28 March, where Evergreens will travel to face Mbekweni United. It’s a classic "one game at a time" mentality for the "Streekuitdaag" giants as they look to turn "Die Dam's" momentum into an away-day masterclass.
