Franschhoek Sunday League Lights Up Communities
The Franschhoek Sunday League (FSL) is gearing up for the upcoming season with the tournament expanding to 12 teams.
The league, established in 2020, will have cricket fans on the edge of their seats as the best talent from the region competes against each other.
The tournament aims to give teams the opportunity to perform on excellent pitches. It also allows the youth to show their ability and for them to gain exposure. The tournament enhances sportsmanship and players from other provinces are welcome to participate.
The focus is on players from disadvantaged communities giving players the confidence, drive, motivation, and self-belief to become professional cricket players.
The FSL tournament boasts players like Blitzbok Selwyn Davids and two 2023 Craven Week players Alonzo Meyer and Jody Pedro amongst their ranks.
Meanwhile, notable standout players such as Nathan Jacobs of the Boland Indoor cricket team and Achille Cloete of the Paarl Rocks will look to have outstanding tournaments.
The FSL tournament has some phenomenal records. Daylon Robyn has accumulated the most runs by a batsman in a single inning with 175 runs, while Keathon Arnoldus and Jeremy Davids are joint top highest wicket-takers.
The Caribbean Kings are the team with the most championship wins.
With the tournament’s vision of producing cricket players of the highest caliber and creating a platform for sports development, the tournament will surely get greater attention and recognition in the years to come.
