KFC Add Hope, was created to serve those in need, but now is a burden to Employees

A Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) employee was given a written warning for not convincing customers to donate R2 to the Add Hope charity.
The written warning stated that the employee had "failed to meet the Add Hope target and made R12 with R7 504,80 in sales."

"This warning should be regarded as very serious, and if you continue to engage in this unacceptable conduct, it will lead to more serious actions being taken against you," stated the employer in the written warning.

Regarding the written warning, KFC South Africa acknowledged that the letter is genuine, but only one franchise has adopted the policy of issuing warnings if the Add Hope target is not met.

In March 2024, five KFC employees in Komani were fired for allegedly selling mini loaves to raise R2 donations from customers for Add Hope. According to the employees, the manager agreed to the mini loaves sales because they were under pressure and had received warnings for failing to get customers to donate.

The idea of selling mini loaves arose after they attempted to pay the donations out of their own pockets but failed because it was unsustainable.

It was later revealed that they were selling company stock. The managers distanced themselves. The five employees were called for disciplinary action, which resulted in their dismissal. This dismissal enraged members of the civil society group "Komani Progress Action" (KPA), who stated that they support the Add Hope Program but believe the profits could be used for social investments.

The KFC provincial office in Gqeberha declined to comment on the situation.
