The Proteas breeze past Afghanistan to book a spot in the ICC T20 Final

The Proteas beat Afghanistan with ease earlier on, to book themselves a place in the ICC t20 final on Saturday where they will either face India or England. This is the Proteas’ First Fiinal in the 20-over format.

This came due to a brilliant bowling display. Tabraiz Shamsi and Marco Jansen took three wickets each to inspire their team to a 9-wicket victory over tournament surprise packages Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan batting order could not get going as they felt the heat from a star-studded Proteas bowling attack. This came as a surprise to many as Afghanistan has displayed gorgeous batting throughout the tournament as one of the top run scorers.

Azmatullah Omarzai was the only Afghanistan player to reach 10 runs and it summed up their dismal batting display in the semis.

Although Quinton de Kock fell for only 5, Reeza Hendricks and captain Aiden Makram made up for it by hitting 29 and 23 not out respectively.

Makram shared his thoughts after the match and said that it was a huge effort from everyone in the squad and that they were pumped for the final.

This is arguably the Proteas’ best performance of the tournament thus far and it came at the perfect time. If they keep up their potent and dangerous bowling attack and work on their batting structure, they are sure to bring the ICC T20 trophy back home for the 1st time ever.
