Niekerkshoop is Burning!!!

The citizens of Niekerkshoop are tired and frustrated. Now they are saying enough is enough. It is another election year and with every election political parties come around making empty promises to the citizens according to Niekerkshoop residents.

It has been more than 10 years now and the community has not received services delivered to them as promised by political parties in control of the municipality. The first point listed by Itumeleng Motlhanky was that a gravel road leads from Prieska to Niekerkshoop a town that has been in existence for more than 100 years. The question automatically comes up, how far back has service delivery been pushed in this town?

Residents say that another winter is coming and they are tired of using self-made bucket toilets that negatively impact their health. Years have gone by and they have asked and asked with many meetings being conducted by municipal officials however, nothing ever comes from the meetings.

Itumeleng says “We are waiting for the Mayor to come face us today as we will not move an inch until we get answers. Our women are suffering from forced use of poor toilet facilities. Our youth are unemployed with no work available in Niekerkshoop. We had enough and want serious change. Now!”

Elections are around the corner with many political parties vying for votes from South African Citizens. Manifestos have been launced and rhetoric is all over the display however basic needs have yet to be met by many political parties that are in charge of local, provincial, and even make up the national government.
